Description
DOR Witnessed this one get hit, story below if interested. Not really scientific. I was driving as I saw the snake beginning to cross in the opposite lane, I had a car closing the gap behind me going much faster, so my indicating and pulling over safely put me back a hundred meters or so from the snake. Once that car passed I was able to get out and run back towards the snake, which was luckily still safe in the other lane. By this stage though it had moved forwards on the road more, and I could see it was poised to strike at the lane the car had just driven past in, obviously a bit spooked by it passing right in front of its path. I was jogging to get there, but before I'm 10 meters away from the snake, more headlights are flying over the hill behind me and I need to safely remove myself from the roadway as I'm not going to make it to the snake in time. I gestured to slow, and the car ducked out slightly at the last second to evade running the snake over, but didn't hit the brakes at all. Unfortunately the snake still had its head raised up in a defensive posture right as it was hit, and so only its head was clipped by the body of the vehicle. It was dead and limp when I got to it a few moments later, with two bloodshot eyes and it's back half in the exact position it was in before it was hit, body perfectly intact.
